Happy Holidays from Architectural Preservation Studio
America's National Treasures
Architectural Preservation Studio President, Pamela Jerome, attended the December 2, 2015 event at Federal Hall to announce that Federal Hall has become one of America's National Treasures, a program developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Federal Hall is one of five northeast sites to receive a grant from the National Trust's Presenting Partner, American Express. Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ, for which APS is the preservation architect, has also benefited with a grant from American Express through this same program.
US/ICOMOS Fellow
We are pleased to announce that Architectural Preservation Studio's President, Pamela Jerome, AIA, FAPT, has been named a US/ICOMOS Fellow.

Cooling Tower Registration Deadline Approaching
As a result of the recent unprecedented outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in the South Bronx, the New York City has enacted a new law that commissions the registration of cooling towers, fluid coolers and evaporative condensers with the Department of Buildings (DOB). This law enables the City to track where this equipment is located and how it is maintained. Building owners are mandated by the new law to comply with certain reporting requirements, including registering existing equipment by September 17, 2015.

Architectural Heritage Preservation International - Shanghai
The exhibition Architectural Heritage Preservation International took place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from August 28th to 30th, 2015. The theme of the exhibition was "Conservation and Reuse of Historic Masonry Buildings". Architectural Preservation Studio's Pamela Jerome, AIA, LEED AP, FAPT attended the exposition and presented.
Architectural Preservation Studio Hosts a Delegation from Kazakhstan
Architectural Preservation Studio was pleased to host and exchange ideas with a delegation of cultural heritage professionals from the Republic of Kazakhstan on August 3rd, 2015 as part of the US Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program.
NYC DOB: Facade Projects and Site Safety
Façade projects requiring site safety plans – buildings 15 stories and higher - may now use a site safety manager, rigger, designated rigging foreman or qualified person to oversee site safety. See NYC Building Code §§3310, 3314.4 and 3316.9, and 1 RCNY 3310-01.
50th Anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Commission, LPC has launched www.landmarks.nyc, a new website highlighting a year-long series of digital features and free or low cost events at landmark sites throughout New York City. The website also feature slide shows from our historic photo archives, blog posts on New York City landmarked buildings, and walking tours of historic sites throughout the city.
The 50th anniversary of the Commission will be celebrated in partnership with landmark sites in all five boroughs, the Landmarks Preservation Foundation, and the Museum of the City of New York, where an exhibition co-sponsored by the Commission, “Saving Place: 50 Years of New York City Landmarks,” will be on view from April 21st to September 13th.
Notification of Sidewalk Shed Removal
Under the 2014 NYC Construction Codes, new notification requirements are in effect for sidewalk shed removals. For more information, see 2014 NYC Building Code §3307.6.5.11.
